The preview of PERFUME: A Sensory Journey Through Contemporary Scent at Somerset House took place in heatwave London.
Inside, were a scent-sational series of ten surprising, tactile art installations (great fun) each with its own subtle scent source which visitors are invited to describe on a blank card. At later points you see details of those scents and their creators; ten cutting-edge perfumers of the last two decades, so you can compare your views with the professionals.
Highlighting the art of perfume creation in the digital age, the show starts with a line-up of classic fragrances under glass domes, leading visitors through the ten immersive installations to the active Perfume Laboratory where master perfumers show the science and skills of creating new, individual scents from over 200 ingredients, ancient and modern. Provocative, contemporary perfumes that have made fashion headlines are showcased.
In addition to the exhibition, on 25 July and 29 August there will be hands-on workshops in the Perfume Laboratory and a full Programme of Talks and Demonstrations.
