Dating back to 1910 and Art Nouveau in style and decoration, the family owned Grand Hotel Tremezzo commands one of the most enviable positions on Lake Como with panoramic views of the town of Bellagio, the Riviera delle Azalee and the stunning Grigne Mountains.
The historic hotel has 90 rooms and suites, all of which offer guests breath-taking views of the lake or the hotel’s century-old 20,000 sqm park and gardens. The hotel also has three swimming pools: Water on the Water –a floating pool just in front of the private beach; Flowers Pool –a pool surrounded by its own delightful private gardens and the indoor T Spa Infinity Pool.
This season the hotel has partnered with ESPA in order for guests to indulge in a new look, chic Spa. Within the 18th century structure, it comprises over 1,000 square metres of wellness space and features five treatment rooms, a hammam and a finishing touches studio spread over three floors, in addition to its infinity pool and gym. The spa has been designed by architects Studio Venelli Kramer, the mastermind behind the hotel’s T Beach and newly appointed Rooftop Suites.
Occupying the entire rooftop floor, the four new suites complement the four original historic suites that pay homage to the timeless elegance of the hotel and its legendary guests such as Suite Greta, as in Greta Garbo. The new suites embody the style and personality of the original hotel, but with a more contemporary look and feel. Each butler-attended suite features a spacious living room, bed chamber and bathroom, as well as a private outdoor terrace with a heated Jacuzzi offering panoramic views of Lake Como.
It is not just the interior of the grand palace that has had a makeover but also the park and gardens have also been redesigned. The park was once part of the renowned gardens of neighbouring Villa Carlotta and has been the subject of an ambitious project from famed landscape architect and botanist, Emilio Trabella. His distinctive vision can be found in the most important and historical gardens all over Italy including Villa Oleandra, home to George Clooney. Part of this exciting project is a complete makeover of the Flowers Pool which now features the rare and precious Travertino Silver that comes from a unique marble quarry in Tuscany, further adding to the exclusivity of this palatial property.
Verdict: Possibly the most luxurious spa in Italy, the T Spa at Grand Hotel Tremezzo combines serene views with soothing spa services. The brand new “hidden” T Spa Suite is a must for those looking to experience a whole new level of private spa experience.
